At COP27, the DOE-ATG’s Grants Programme Coordinator Christa-Joy Burton spoke as a panelist at the WRI and IIED event “Locally Led Adaptation: Delivering effective action at the frontline” to announce the Antigua and Barbuda Department of Environment’s (DOE-ATG) endorsement of the Principles for Locally Led Adaptation (LLA).
One of the ways the DOE is currently implementing these principles is by providing environmental and climate financing for community-led and household projects in vulnerable areas through the Sustainable Island Resource Framework (SIRF) Fund. To date, schools across Antigua, community-based organizations, households and other vulnerable groups have gained access to low-interest loans and grant funding up to USD 300,000.
We also witness Locally Led Adaptation (LLA) every day in Antigua and Barbuda through the major efforts of our DOE-ATG volunteers assisting with tree planting, data collection, and volunteers working with local NGOs and community-based organizations to protect our environment!
