Poly Clinics

China-Aid Antigua and Barbuda partnered with the Government to construct two community centers. The projects are located on two plots on the island of Antigua one in St. John’s Blackburn Park and the other St. Philips in Antigua.

The buildings includes: lobby; conference room; nursing consultation stations; physician’s consultation stations; dental clinic; ophthalmology clinic; physical therapy consultation; pharmacy; laboratory; and radiology services. Thus, in addition to services a community clinic would offer to the public, the polyclinics will offer other services to cover a client’s medical need in a more holistic manner.

The Villa Polyclinic is a two-storey building, thus, some of the services to be offered will be on the top floor. All services at Glanvilles will be on one level.

Dr. Anike Matthew-Anthony

Medical Officer

Dr. Anike Matthew-Anthony is a licensed medical practitioner who has been assigned the responsibility to coordinate all programs which will be offered at the polyclinics. She completed her medical studies in Cuba, and upon returning to Antigua, worked at the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (now renamed Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre) before transitioning to community medicine. While working in the community, it became clear to her that improvements were needed in the healthcare system. Thus, she subsequently completed an international master’s degree in Public Health at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. It is her hope to put her acquired skills into practice and bridge the gap between different sectors of the healthcare system.
