The Minister of Health, Wellness, Social Transformation and the Environment, Sir Molwyn Joseph joins the Nurses in both the public and private sectors to observe International Nurses Day 2023 and applauds the nurses of Antigua and Barbuda for their continued exemplary service in the field of health.
International Nurses Day is observed on May 12 each year to celebrate the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth all over the world. Each year, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) commemorates this momentous day to honour and appreciate the selfless service of Nurses.
As the Nurses celebrate under the theme ‘Our Nurses, Our Future’, Sir Molwyn would like to thank the Nurses for all of their hard work as they continue to make selfless contributions to the development of healthcare in Antigua and Barbuda.
The Minister noted that “Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system and without them, our community clinics, polyclinics and sole hospital will not be able to function effectively.”
Sir Molwyn is using Nurses Day to encourage additional persons to join the noble profession of Nursing, noting that the Government of Antigua and Barbuda has established arrangements to ensure that the Nurses continue to prepare themselves academically in the various specialization of Nursing.
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda, by policy has established scholarships for Nurses at the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus in Antigua and Barbuda and the Minister is encouraging interested persons to take advantage of these opportunities.
