The newly appointed Board of Directors of the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre was officially sworn in during a ceremony held at Government House on Friday morning. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs, Hon. Michael Joseph, who welcomed the new members and expressed confidence in their ability to provide the strategic oversight and governance necessary to support the continued advancement of Antigua and Barbuda’s principal healthcare institution.

 

The new Board comprises Dr. Philmore Benjamin, Dr. Edmond Mansoor, Casmin Greene, Akeem Edwards, Randy Agrippa, Keva Dean, Martin Camacho, Dr. Karen Josiah, Kevin Silston and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kamaria DeCastro.

 

Addressing the newly sworn-in members, Minister Joseph said the Board brings together individuals with a broad range of professional expertise and experience, creating a strong foundation for sound governance and informed decision-making.

 

“The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre plays a pivotal role in the delivery of healthcare services in our country, and I am confident that this Board possesses the knowledge, leadership and commitment required to guide the institution through its next phase of development. The diversity of skills represented around the table will undoubtedly strengthen the Board’s ability to make strategic decisions that are in the best interest of patients, staff and the wider healthcare system,” the Minister stated.

 

 

Minister Joseph noted that the Government remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening the country’s healthcare sector and emphasized that effective governance is critical to achieving that goal.

“I look forward to working closely with the Board as we continue to improve healthcare delivery, enhance operational efficiency and ensure the highest standards of accountability and transparency. Together, we have an opportunity to build on the progress already made and position the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre as a modern, resilient and patient-centred institution capable of meeting the evolving healthcare needs of our people,” he said.

 

The Minister also expressed appreciation to the outgoing Board for its service and dedication, while extending congratulations to the newly appointed members as they begin their tenure. He encouraged them to approach their responsibilities with integrity, collaboration and a shared commitment to excellence in public healthcare.
